I started building furniture about 17 years ago when my father first bought Shutter Crafts. I would spend time at the shop while he worked and played with scraps of wood and a handsaw building rickety end tables and elaborate tree houses. I’ve come a long way since then and much prefer using power tools! When I was in college I began experimenting with finer woodworking techniques. I moved out on my own and needed a dining table. It came together OK so I then designed and built an entertainment center with a matching bookcase. After my wife Mandi and I got married, we needed more bookcases (she has about a bajillion books), coffee and end tables, a bed, and some cabinetry for our under-furnished kitchen. Each of these projects led to more projects as friends and family wanted similar items for their own homes. After three years of part-time furniture building I took the plunge and launched my own business. I keep learning new techniques as I take on new projects and I am really enjoying the journey.
